KV Gopalakrishnan – Podcast
Sri. KV Gopalakrishnan, kanjira exponent, is probably one of the busiest percussionists in Carnatic music today. He explains how he has confined himself in Chicago as he is concerned about infecting older and younger members of his family in Chennai.
This podcast is part of the Quarantunes series, featuring Indian Classical Musicians, recorded during the worldwide shutdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Released one by one, the full series is at https://lakshmianand.com
Sri Gopalakrishnan began learning from his father Sri. KVRS Mani and then from Kuthalam Sri. Viswanatha Iyer and Sangita Kalanidhi Sri. TK Murthy. At the end of his chat, he plays some of his own work on Adi tALam in kanda nadai, which, he says, is his favourite nadai.
